Recommended Resource: Skype’s Free Calls to Cell Phones and Land Lines, and New Skypecasting!
Okay, I know I recommended Skype a few months ago, but I’m impressed again. Skype is offering its SkypeOut service, which allows you to call cell phones and land lines (all those normal phone numbers!) direct from your computer, free for U.S. or Canada to U.S. or Canada calls! For those of you in the U.S. or Canada, that means free long distance until the end of the year if you use your computer. Amazing.
In addition, Skype is previewing a new service called “Skypecasting.” It allows anyone to use Skype to connect with other Skype users about a specific topics. I’ve seen hobbyists use it to connect with other interested parties, English-language students use it for practice with native English speakers, clubs or associations use it for their conference calls, and fledgling “Skypecasters” use it to build their brand and platform. It’s similar to “Podcasting,” only live and voice-to-voice.
