Recommended Resource: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth

Okay, so I didn’t learn these directly from a millionaire… No, to take that back, I just did. But The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth is a book by Richard Paul Evans, New York Times best-selling author of The Christmas Box and other great feel-good books.

I attended a presentation on Wednesday this week by Richard Paul Evans (or Rick, as his niece Heather calls him) about the Five Lessons. When Richard was young, his parents really struggled financially. As he tells it, he slept on the floor outside the kitchen and lived in fear that his dad would be put in jail for not paying his bills.

When a local millionaire invited all the youth in the area to a lecture at the neighborhood church, 12-year-old Richard went. And, perhaps, he was the only one that listened to the message that transformed his life.

Years later, his niece Heather asked Richard, “What are we doing wrong? We make good money. Why are we struggling financially?” Richard invited Heather and her husband out to dinner, and taught them the Five Lessons over sushi. 14 months later, Heather and her husband were completely out of debt and had saved a nest egg of $30,000. It was Heather that encouraged her uncle to put the Five Lessons into a book for the benefit of the world.

Richard admits that most “millionaire” books are written not to make the readers wealthy, but to make the author wealthy. What sets this book apart is that it is full of simple principles that can change lives, and the author loses money on every single book that is sold! Proceeds from the sale of The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth are given to The Christmas Box House, an organization that shelters abused children.
